New Stars Galore [1]

Millions of new stars are blazing to life in the spiral galaxy NGC 4303, shown in a combination of wavelengths observed by the Very Large Telescope in Chile. The stellar nurseries are the glowing yellow blobs, each of which contains many thousands of young or still-forming stars. NGC 4303 is one of almost 100 star-forming galaxies studied in a recent survey designed to reveal new details about how stars are born. [ESO/PHANGS]
