Digging a Hole [1]

NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter snapped this image of a new impact crater on Mars. The crater formed in May 2022 when a small asteroid slammed into the Red Planet. Another craft, the InSight lander, recorded the shockwave from the impact. The color has been enhanced to bring out subtle details, such as material ejected from the surface, which looks blue and white. [NASA/JPL/Univ. Arizona]
