Family Portrait [1]

Deimos, the smaller moon of Mars, passes in front of the Red Planet in this recently released image from Hope, a Mars orbiter operated by the United Arab Emirates. Hope's observations suggest that Deimos and Mars's other moon, Phobos, may be debris from an ancient impact between Mars and a large asteroid. The oddly shaped Deimos is less than 10 miles long. The image is a composite of 27 frames, which had varied exposure times to provide good views of both bodies. [Emirates Mars Mission]
