Busy Whirlpool [1]

Millions of stars plus dark lanes of dust highlight this James Webb Space Telescope image of M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy. The image was snapped in infrared light and colors were assigned to different infrared wavelengths. The different colors represent different types of gas within the spiral galaxy, which is about 27 million light-years from Earth. [ESA-Webb/NASA/CSA/A. Adamo (Stockholm University)/FEAST JWST team]
