A plume of dust jets into space after DART, a NASA spacecraft, rammed into the asteroid Dimorphos on September 26 in this view from a telescope in Chile. The mission was designed to evaluate whether such an impact could deflect an asteroid on a collision course with Earth. Astronomers will monitor the asteroid's orbit around a larger companion asteroid for months to determine how much the orbit was altered. [CTIO/NOIRLab/SOAR/NSF/AURA/T. Kareta (Lowell Observatory), M.
