Ceres at Opposition
Featured on February 1, 2018
A true-color view of Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt, shows many impact craters, including several with bright deposits inside them or near their rims. The view is from Dawn, a spacecraft that is orbiting Ceres. Ceres is closest to Earth in early February. It is still too faint to see without binoculars or a telescope, however. [NASA/JPL]
