InSight, the next Mars lander, climbs above the clouds shortly after launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, on May 5. It is scheduled to arrive at Mars in November, when it will begin studying the planet's interior and monitoring its weather. This was the first launch of an interplanetary spacecraft from the west coast of the United States. [NASA]
