Pandora's Bounty
Featured on February 16, 2023
Thousands of galaxies fill this view from James Webb Space Telescope. The bright white objects represent the glow of Pandora's Cluster, a collection of many giant clusters. Their combined gravity magnifies and distorts the view of more distant galaxies, which appear red. Many of the galaxies look stretched out as a result of the lensing effect of Pandora's Cluster. Some of these galaxies formed when the universe was quite young, giving astronomers a peek into what was happening many billions of years ago.
